Amanda Johnson is the Choral Director at Agawam High School where she leads the select Chamber Choir and the Chorale ensembles, while also maintaining a diverse teaching schedule that includes music theory and appreciation courses. Outside the regular school day, Amanda directs the Agawam Ambassadors performance group and serves as Music Director for the school’s theatrical productions. She was recently appointed as the founding director of the Springfield Symphony Youth Voices, a prestigious new choral program within the Springfield Symphony Orchestra’s youth ensemble organization. Before joining Agawam in 2023, she served as Director of Choirs & Performing Arts Curriculum Supervisor at Tantasqua Regional High School and as Choir Director at Jabish Brook Middle School in Belchertown.

Her conducting studies include work with renowned mentors including Dr. Eugene Rogers, Dr. Tony Thornton, and Simon Carrington. Amanda is an active member of the Massachusetts Music Educators Association, serving in leadership roles at both the state and district levels. As a performer, Amanda is a founding member and featured soloist with the Illumine Vocal Arts Ensemble.

Amanda holds a Master’s in Music Education from Kent State University and a Bachelor’s in Music Education from The Boston Conservatory. She is honored to collaborate with the Master Singers of Worcester under the direction of Edward Tyler, her former choir director at Manchester High School in Connecticut, whose inspiring leadership was instrumental in her decision to become a choral educator.
